ROLE OVERVIEW:

As Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will work closely with the Chief Executive to lead the finance operations across Portsmouth FC, Portsmouth Women, and the Pompey Health & Fitness Club. This is a high-impact role requiring strategic leadership, financial acumen, and the ability to influence decisions at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of financial strategy, planning, and reporting across the club.

  • Provide commercial insight and dynamic analysis to support strategic decision-making.

  • Maintain financial control and ensure strong cashflow and liquidity.

  • Oversee compliance with all relevant football, financial, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Deliver robust governance and risk management practices.

  • Model squad costs and assess major project viability (e.g., capital investments).

  • Advise the Board and executive team on key financial matters.

  • Mentor and develop the finance function, fostering a high-performance culture.

  • Collaborate across departments to align financial and operational priorities.

  • Present complex financial information clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FOR:

Essential Skills & EXPERIENCE

  • Chartered Accountant (or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience.

  • Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role (ideally within sport or football).

  • Strong technical proficiency in financial reporting, planning, and compliance.

  • Commercially minded, with a track record of adding strategic value.

  • Confident communicator with the ability to simplify complex data for decision-makers.

  • Resilient under pressure, with sound judgement in high-stakes environments.

  • A natural leader who inspires trust, collaboration, and professional integrity.

  • Passionate about the role of football clubs in their communities.
