Role Summary
The Elite Performance & Insights Lead is a dual appointment across STATSports and the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) Men’s National XV Team.
Within STATSports: the post holder will support Elite Account Management and Product teams by visualising data, informing product development, assisting with client queries, and contributing to internal workshops and product testing.
Within the IRFU: the role will be embedded in the Men’s National XV Team, managing all aspects of athletic performance data (notably GPS), supporting training and match preparation, and contributing to player monitoring and load management.
The position requires significant domestic and international travel, averaging 20 weeks per year in camp and up to 33 weeks during Rugby World Cup years.
Key Responsibilities
IRFU Men’s XV
Manage the collection, analysis, and communication of performance data including GPS, HR, VBT, force testing, wellness, and iMGs.
Support team and player-level planning, return-to-performance strategies, and training interventions.
Contribute to pre-camp, in-camp, and post-camp phases in close collaboration with the IRFU Data Scientist and wider support staff.
STATSports
Assist with elite account management queries and high-level data visualisation.
Support product testing and the development of performance insights.
Deliver internal workshops and provide input on product and service enhancements.
Candidate Profile
Essential Requirements
Degree or Higher National Diploma in sports/data science, physical education, or exercise science.
Minimum of three years’ experience delivering sports-science support within an elite team-sport environment.
Proven expertise in sports-science principles, GPS systems, and the STATSports Sonra suite to support athlete management and development.
Full UK/EU driving licence and the right to work in the UK and Ireland.
Desirable Attributes
MSc in sport/data science.
Previous experience in an elite rugby environment.
Familiarity with R, Python, SPSS, Tableau, or Power BI.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to work independently under pressure, and a collaborative approach within interdisciplinary high-performance teams.
