ACADEMY GOALKEEPING COACH: WIGAN ATHLETIC

Wigan Athletic Academy has a long-standing, proud history of developing talent. This is your chance to contribute to its continued success and the development of top talent. Wigan Athletic Football Club is seeking an Academy Goalkeeper Coach to support the development of goalkeepers across the Academy age groups (U9–U18). The successful candidate will report directly to the Lead Academy Goalkeeper Coach and be primarily based at the Stadium Way Training Facility. .

Key Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Deliver an age-specific goalkeeping syllabus to players under your charge.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and report to the

  • Lead Academy Goalkeeper Coach and Phase Lead Coach

  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to provide excellent goalkeeping coaching.

  • Attend CPD events and Academy meetings as required.

  • Use the Performance Management Application (PMA) to complete reviews and assessments of training sessions, fixtures, player feedback, six-weekly reports, half-year reports, Individual Learning Outcomes (ILOs), and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).

  • Attend Academy fixtures and travel with Academy squads (where applicable).

  • Be responsible for match-day kits and training equipment.

What are we looking for:

  • UEFA B Coaching Licence and UEFA B Goalkeeper Licence.

  • Proven coaching experience within an elite framework.

  • Strong time and resource management skills.

  • The ability to differentiate tasks based on players’ abilities and key stages of child/player development.

  • IT literacy, including proficiency with the full Microsoft Office suite.

  • The ability to build effective working relationships with players, staff, and parents.

  • Strong organisational skills to manage their own and others’ workloads and prioritise effectively.

  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Adaptability and openness to new initiatives.

  • An approachable and professional manner with young people.

  • Self-motivation and a passion for success.

  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • A commitment to continuous learning and development.

  • An assertive yet calm demeanour, with the ability to perform well under pressure.
